ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA (June 17, 2019) – Keepers of the Coast (KOTC), a local non-profit dedicated to promoting coastal stewardship and the conservation of coastal habitat, are recruiting volunteers, sponsors, and adoptees for the 10th Annual “Day After” Beach Cleanup on Friday, July 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The purpose of the cleanup is to restore the coastline following the impacts of Fourth of July, traditionally one of the busiest beach days of the year.

This community-wide effort will be held at several beach access points throughout St. Johns County. So far, KOTC has welcomed St. Augustine Ghost Krewe in adopting the Crescent Beachfront Park access point. Additional sites are currently available for adoption from local businesses, community organizations, and nonprofits:

- Mickler’s Beachfront Park- Vilano Beachfront Park- St. John County Ocean and Fishing Pier (St. Augustine Beach)- A Street Beach Access

Keepers of the Coast has successfully prevented over 600,000 (and counting!) cigarette butts from entering our oceans. Continue to keep the right butts on the beach by winning the cigarette butt challenge at the 10th Annual “Day After” Beach Cleanup. A prize package of sustainable Keepers of the Coast gear will be given to the participant who collects the most cigarette butts at each cleanup location. No pre-registration is required, and volunteers may show up at any of the locations. All participants will be given a bag for trash, a bag for recycling, and a bag for cigarette butts.
